Male Breast Reduction

Gynecomastia, a condition meaning over-developed breasts in men, can affect men of any age and race. Over-developed male breasts can be a result of hormonal changes, heredity, overweight, or the use of certain drugs.

Gynecomastia can cause emotional pain in young men and mature adults, decreasing self-confidence and often limiting certain activities and sexual intimacy.

The excess breast size of those with gynecomastia may be caused by either one or both of the following factors: excess localized fat of the breast and or excess glandular tissue development. Liposuction alone can treat patients suffering only from localized fat deposits in the breast. For men that also have excessive glandular tissue development, Dr. Verbin will also need to excise the excess tissue in addition to the liposuction technique. At your consultation, Dr. Verbin will examine you and explain his surgical suggests based on your individual needs.

Gynecomastia reduction can be performed on young men as long as breast size has stabilized. Mature men may have the procedure performed as long as they are physically healthy and of relatively normal weight. On average, the procedure takes approximately three hours of surgery time to perform. The patient returns home the same day and post-operative discomfort is controlled by oral pain medication. Patients may return to work after one week of rest, but must limit physical activity for the next five weeks until completely healed.
