Neck lift procedures in South Bay vary in intensity, incision sites, and surgical technique — all dependent upon the patient’s needs and stated goals. There are three basic techniques that can be utilized and two incision sites. For patients that have sagging jowls and loose skin of the neck, Dr. Christopher Verbin will use an incision that often begins in front of the ear lobe and wraps around behind the ear ending in the lower scalp to excise excess skin, pull muscles tighter, and lift the neck back into its normal position.*
Neck Lift Procedure Details
For patients that suffer from excess fat under the chin (double chin), a very small incision is made in the natural crease under the chin. This allows access for liposuction of the chin and neck area. This incision also gives the surgeon access to the muscles and cords that run down the neck towards the chest. In some cases, these cords are very visible — a very obvious sign of aging. Dr. Verbin can perform a fat transfer to this area, cushioning the cords and camouflaging their presence. Through the incision under the chin, Dr. Verbin can also tighten the muscles under the chin that can contribute to a redundant appearance of fat and skin. This muscle repair is referred to as submentalplasty.*
Neck lifts are often performed at the same time as a facelift, eyelid surgery, and brow lift. The procedure is performed in a Torrance accredited outpatient surgery center and the patient goes home the same day as surgery. Minimal post-operative discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Patients having only a neck lift, usually return to work after a week. When combined with other procedures, recovery may be longer.*
